A new wine bar and French spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Chinatown, called Oriel, is located at 1135 N Alameda St.

Oriel specializes in French bistro-style cuisine, with small plates, charcuterie, and an extensive wine list available by the glass or the bottle.

On the menu, expect to see items like chicken liver mousse, gratin, escargot, steak tartare, and gnocchi à la Parisienne. For dessert, there is an almond tart and creme brûlée. (You can check out the full menu here.)

The newcomer has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.

Mannix, who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on October 27th, said: "Fantastic spot. Casual French with great wines and standard French classics in a thriving new neighborhood. Minimalist-chic, great date spot, and top-notch service. They've hit the ground running."

Yelper Adam Z. added: “Great French bistro/ brasserie style food and wine. Classy, beautiful, and hip. Comfortable patio area as well.”

And Bill N. said: "Brought my friends Dave, Matt, and Jake here. We were having a blast drinking and eating. Wonderful French bistro food and a French wine list centered around the Loire."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Oriel Chinatown is open Friday and Saturday from 5pm–2am, and Sunday–Thursday from 5pm–midnight.
