Looking for a new chicken shop to check out? Look no further than this new arrival. The newcomer to Sherman Oaks, called Wild & Free, is located at 4550 Van Nuys Blvd.
Wild & Free is Plan Check Kitchen + Bar founder Terry Heller's latest venture, specializing in rotisserie chicken. There are four different chicken flavor profiles to choose from—original, smoky BBQ, wild (spicy), or savory with lemon and garlic. There's also a plant-based chicken substitute for vegetarian and vegan diners.
The chicken can be enjoyed in salads, bowls, or a variety of sandwiches, like Peruvian spicy chicken with mashed avocado and pickled onions and "The Original" with broccolini and crispy chicken skin.
Salad and bowl options include the "Sinaloa Bowl" with spicy chicken, herb rice and tomatillos, "Lemongrass Bowl" with pickled cucumber and radish, and more.
Various sides round out the menu, like Japanese sweet potato in miso butter, curry cauliflower, and more. (You can check out the full menu here.)
Wild & Free has gotten off to an uneven start thus far, with a three-star rating out of 41 reviews on Yelp.
Andy S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on October 6th, said: "I have eaten dinner here twice and I have decided that overall ... I like this place. I am trying to eat low-carb, and this place gives me what I need and scratches a few itches."
Yelper Kerori K. added: “We went there for lunch on Sunday and had chicken sandwiches. I thought the ingredients are fresh and good our sandwiches tasted fine.”
And Lena K. said: "We were excited to hear that Wild and Free was opening a block away from us. I came here to pick up an order of 1 family meal (savory style) + 1 supergreens salad."
