If you've got breakfast and brunch on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. The Farmer's Hand market has expanded its culinary offerings with Folk, a 24-seat cafe and coffee shop at 1701 Trumbull Ave. in Corktown.
The corner cafe is airy and bright with white tiles on the walls and a handful of tables in the dining area.
Serving farm-fresh fare and humanely raised meats, the seasonal menu includes house-made granola with cashew milk and fresh berries, ricotta toast with strawberry ginger preserves and quiche served with a side of greens. Or try the hearty Aussie meat pie made with flaky pastry and a mash of spring pea sprouts. Wash down your meal with coffee, hot tea or one of the infused milks. Locally made ice cream, homemade pastries and pie are also available. (See full menu here.)
"We want the food to not just be healthy for your insides, but also a really beautiful experience," Rohani Foulkes, who co-owns the cozy spot with Kiki Louya, told the Detroit News.
With a 4.5-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp so far, Folk seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Deb M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new cafe on May 7, said, "Why is this little place five-star worthy? First, the food: healthy and delicious, super fresh and creative. The other reason for five stars is the staff — they were all so friendly and helpful. Everyone was super chill and my friends and I enjoyed the visit. We didn't want to leave!"
And Simmer I. said, "Truly this place is as good as it gets. Everyone was exceedingly willing to serve. Go now because the buzz is going to grow exponentially. I predict lines down the street. The food and drink I had were spot on."
Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Folk is open from 7 a.m.–3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m.–3 p.m. on weekends. (It's closed on Tuesday.)
