If Vietnamese sandwiches are what you're after, look no further than this new restaurant. Located at 211 E. Seventh Ave. in Capitol Hill, the newcomer is called Daikon.

According to the restaurant's website, Daikon is owned by two brothers, Rob and Lon, who adore bánh mì sandwiches. Together, they're running the shop by their four core values: offering livable wages to employees, providing transparent views into the kitchen, maintaining "stupidly-clean" restaurants, and using organic, antibiotic- and hormone-free ingredients they'd feed their own family members.

To order your bánh mì sandwich, rice box or salad, start on one end of the counter where you'll choose the ingredients. Your meal is then made before your eyes, and you'll pay for it at the end of the line.

On the menu you'll find chicken, brisket, pork and vegan jackfruit, as well as toppings like house pickles, cucumbers, a few sauces and fresh herbs. Adding bacon and pâté costs an extra $2 each, and beverages available include soda, iced coffee or beer.

With a 4.5-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp so far, the newcomer is on its way to developing a local fan base.

Lisa S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 20, said, "Daikon delivered! I can tell they understand the importance of the bread — it was soft, flavorful, and with a crunch from a quick toast. The pulled pork with sambal and sweet chili sauce (you choose your sauce) gave the meat a nice tang, while the pickled vegetables add the acid. The fresh cilantro and mint complete the deal and were added in the appropriate amount to not overwhelm."

And Ryan S. said, "Great, fast and healthy Asian dishes. I had the brisket rice bowl with all of the fixin's. Added bonus — it's gluten free."

Head on over to check it out: Daikon is open from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. daily.
