A new neighborhood diner, offering breakfast and brunch, has debuted in Berkeley. Called Wendell's, the new addition is located at 3838 Tennyson St. and is helmed by former Linger head chef Eric Lee, Eater Denver reports.
Diners can expect to find greasy-spoon classics like chicken fried steak, stacked pancakes and egg scrambles, along with coffee from local roastery Method. But they can also venture further afield with fare like a brûléed half-grapefruit with a caramelized top; or the black-and-white French toast, made of chocolate- and orange ginger-dipped brioche bread.
A variety of toasts make an appearance, such as the Portland, with seared pork belly and creamed mushrooms. Cocktails, beer and wine are also available for the brunch crowd, with options like a loaded bloody mary. (You can check out the full menu here.)
With a 4.5-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, Wendell's seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
"The poutine had a really tasty gravy and I liked the use of shoestring fries," said Mona E., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 16. "My favorite part might be the $2 coffee!"
Yelper Tracie B. added, "Beautiful renovation of this former DJ's Berkeley Cafe. Wendell's has a lovely indoor dining area and bar as well as a sunny (and shady, depending on your preference) patio. Lots of seating, very modern and inviting."
Head on over to check it out: Wendell's is open from 7 a.m.–2 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m.–3 p.m. on weekends.
