Topping the list is Nicky's Thai Kitchen. Located at 903 Penn Ave. downtown, it's the highest rated Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh, boasting four stars out of 551 reviews on Yelp.

On the menu, start off with Thai toasts with marinated ground pork or chicken satay. Entrees include a variety of curry dishes, including pumpkin curry, crispy tilapia stir-fried with vegetables and basil, and deep-fried tofu with tamarind. Though this branch has a bar serving wine, sake and Thai beer, customers are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages.

On the North Side? The restaurant's second location at 856 Western Ave. is another popular destination, earning four stars out of 375 reviews on Yelp. Look for similar menu options minus the bar.

2. Smiling Banana Leaf

Special plates include the mango tilapia with cabbage and the Chicken Paradise with spinach and marinated, grilled meat. Patrons can also select their own combination of pork, chicken, tofu or vegetables with seafood.

Then there's Spice Island Tea House, an Oakland favorite with four stars out of 304 reviews. Its Asian fusion menu includes recipes from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. Look for the Thai-style stir-fries, the vegetarian red curry dish with eggplant, potatoes and green beans, and spicy Chiang Mai noodles with minced chicken.

The teas are inspired by China, the Himalayas and India, among other areas. Stop by 253 Atwood St. to hit up the tea room.
