A new Chinese spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. Called Northeastern Kitchen, the fresh arrival is located at 5824 Forbes Ave. in Squirrel Hill South.

The restaurant is owned by Zheng Yuan and Chong Xue Liu, and You Shan Pei, who spent 18 years in Flushing, New York preparing northeastern Chinese and North Korean fare, runs the kitchen.

On the menu, look for soups, stews and noodle dishes, as well as a long list of specialty entrees.

So far, Northeastern Kitchen only has two five-star ratings on Yelp, meaning that the popular newcomer has a long way to go if it wants to become a local staple.

Emily H., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 25, wrote, "I love their Hua Juan in place of rice. Their noodles are also really well made. Definitely check this place out."

Yelper Scissors S. added, “Mama's Salad is the best thing I have tried in Pittsburgh. Everything about Northeastern Kitchen is great.”

Head on over to check it out: Northeastern Kitchen is open from noon–9:30 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, noon–10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m.–9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
