Union is a gym specializing in boxing and yoga classes. Located at 3400 Folsom Blvd. in East Sac, it offers boxing classes six days a week and yoga on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The form of yoga offered at Union is called Buti, which the gym's website describes as "cardio-intensive bursts of tribal dance, primal movement and conditioning woven into a dynamic yoga practice."

With five stars out of five reviews on Yelp, Union is coming out swinging.

"I am not a fan of cardio at all, so I was skeptical about boxing, but after four classes, it's safe to say I am obsessed!" wrote Yelper Joni C., who reviewed Union on April 10. "You do need to bring grips, or you can purchase them from Union as well for $9.99. "

Of the yoga classes, Kristina M. said, "I have been exposed to the power yoga class here, specifically Buti Yoga, and I am in love. Meghan teaches a wonderful, kick-butt class with great music to keep you going throughout the workout."

Union offers classes mornings and evenings Monday-Thursday, and mornings only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check out the full class schedule or call 916-410-8100 for exact hours.

Edge Studios

448 Howe Ave., Sierra Oaks

Edge Studios is a cycling, yoga and climbing gym located in The UV shopping center (formerly University Village) at 448 Howe Ave., as we previously reported

Rather than a traditional climbing wall, the studio's 30-minute climbing classes use vertical climbing machines to combine upper body exercises and stair-climbing in a full-body workout.

The gym offers five types of yoga classes, including Yin, a slower-paced flexibility-building class, and Ashtanga, a challenging class incorporating a series of Vinyasa postures.

Some of the amenities keeping Edge on the cutting edge: a Himalayan salt wall, a calming water wall, bamboo flooring and infrared heating in the yoga studio.

Edge Studios's current Yelp rating of five stars out of eight reviews indicates an enthusiastic reception by patrons so far.

Jennifer H. wrote, "The instructors are so friendly and knowledgeable. If you're a newbie to anything, no worries! They will take the time to make sure you feel comfortable."

And Yelper Andrea R., who reviewed Edge Studios on May 25, recommended, "Give yourself extra time to find a spot if you're going to an evening class. The parking lot gets extremely packed in the evening. "

Edge Studios is open from 6 a.m.–9 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m.–6 p.m. on weekends. You can check out the studio's full schedule of classes here.

Club Pilates, a San Diego-based national chain of Pilates studios, has opened a new location at 2860 Del Paso Road, Suite 300, in Natomas. This is its sixth studio in the Greater Sacramento area.

Club Pilates classes employ Pilates reformer machines and modernized techniques based on the original method popularized by Joseph Pilates, the website explains.

In addition to a free 30-minute introductory class, the studio offers eight different 50-minute classes, including cardio-, strength training- and flexibility-focused sessions. Check out the full class schedule here.

Yelp users are generally positive about Natomas' Club Pilates, which currently holds four stars out of six reviews on the site.

"Tried their free 30-minute intro class and I was hooked!" wrote Yelper Kristel V., who was one of the first users to review the new spot on April 9. "The intro class I tried was with Amber, who is very upbeat, friendly and knows what she's doing."

"The instructors are super nice and patient. You don't need to be a pro. They have classes for all levels," Dianna F. noted. "I sweated my butt off, but it wasn't anything like having to walk on the treadmill or elliptical."

Club Pilates is open from 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 5 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
