Craving Portuguese food?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top Portuguese spots around Pittsburgh, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture when cravings strike.

1. Mallorca Restaurant

Topping the list is Mallorca Restaurant. Although Mallorca is an island in Spain, not Portugal, you'll find menu items from across Iberia at this South Side restaurant. For example, there's the linguica assada, a sausage flambéed with brandy, and a Portuguese-style steak with prosciutto, fried egg and garlic au jus. There are a number of Portuguese wines as well. It's the highest rated Portuguese restaurant in Pittsburgh, boasting four stars out of 242 reviews on Yelp. You can find it at 2228 E. Carson St.

2. Cafe Zinho

Next up is Shadyside's Cafe Zinho, situated at 238 Spahr St. Here you'll find starters like clams with white wine and garlic and pan-seared sardines. Entrees include sea bass with lemon slices, lamb burger with mint pesto and chicken breast with fig sauce and Gorgonzola cheese. The restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own. With four stars out of 80 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite.

3. Azorean Cafe

Finally, there's Bloomfield's Azorean Cafe, a casual counter-order spot located at 4715 Liberty Ave. It serves just breakfast and lunch. Start the morning with eggs and chorizo on a Portuguese roll. A typical lunch choice might be the Portuguese stew of beans, pork, chorizo, carrots and sweet potatoes, or baked octopus marinated in olive oil with onions and potatoes. Azores Cafe is also a BYOB spot with Yelpers giving it 4.5 stars out of 28 reviews.
