Small Shoulders/Big Dreams II: Ruby Bridges & The Four Freedoms

Deborah Pittman's multi-media performance piece honors the experiences of civil rights activist Ruby Bridges, who desegregated the William Franz Elementary School at six years old. The images of her walk to school flanked by guards, and of the faces of the angry protestors who tried to stop her, captured the nation.

In Pittman's piece, Bridges' experiences are seen through the lens of FDR’s Four Freedoms (speech and expression, worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear). The performance is suitable for both children and adults.

When: Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7, 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.
