The Gelato Cone

The Gelato Cone is a new spot to score gelato and smoothies.
With four locations in Texas, the family-owned and operated business opened its first shop in Europe in 1956. It serves gelato, ice cream, smoothies, coffee and other beverages. The gelato comes in fruit flavors like banana, mango and strawberry, and sweet flavors such as Nutella crunch, chocolate flakes, cookies and coffee. (Click here to view the full menu.)
It's made a good impression so far on Yelp with a five star rating.
Yelper Marc D., who was the first to review it on Dec. 8, wrote, "Excellent choice of flavors and very smooth and yummy gelato. Friendly staff. Have a couple of locations already and opening a lot more in the area after talking to them."
Looking for a cool dessert? Stop in from 1–10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Sunday, and 1–11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Heavenly Kup

Heavenly Kup is a new spot to score bubble tea, shaved ice, coffee and tea.
There are almost a dozen different varieties of milk tea, as well as flavored green teas, Korean teas, smoothies and espresso. Try the ice cream, multiple flavors of shaved ice or order a freshly-prepared pastry to go with your beverage.
Heavenly Kup is off to a strong start, with a five-star Yelp rating out of 29 reviews so far.
Joy M., who reviewed it on Dec. 6, said, "Taiyaki, bingsoo, boba tea and coffee all in one place! The sweet owner was the only one working and she was excited to tell us about all the different desserts she has and more that she's planning to add, such as cheese taiyaki and honey toast."
And Lily Z. noted, "Such a cute cafe with the sweetest owner! This a Korean-inspired dessert/boba cafe and they have amazing taiyaki (fish-shaped pastry) and teas."
It's open from 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1–9 p.m. on Sunday.
Captain D's
603 E. 15th St.

Captain D's is a new spot to score fast food seafood and more.
The chain restaurant offers fish, seafood and chicken meals, plus salads and sandwiches to go. Look for grilled salmon or talapia meals and fried shrimp, as well as family meals that include either 14 pieces of chicken or a 10-piece platter of fried fish.
With three stars out of 15 reviews on Yelp, Captain D's is getting uneven feedback, but it's still early days.
Jennifer U. said, "Love Captain D's! Food was fresh and hot. Love the sides—fried okra, mac and cheese, green beans, etc. So glad we have one in Plano now. Service was friendly and fast."
Boon Y., however, wrote, "The food itself is not the best—sometimes overcooked, sometimes too salty. As I said, I come here for quick and cheap, so I will still come."

Guanaquitas
2405 E. Plano Parkway

Guanaquitas is a new Salvadoran spot, offering tacos and more.
On the menu, expect tacos, tortas and burritos with a vast selection of protein options, including brisket, barbacoa and tongue, as well as quesadillas that come with pressed pork cracklings and grilled steak. There are also special breakfast options.
Guanaquitas has been getting a positive response from Yelpers, with a five-star rating out of five reviews thus far.
Yelper April I, who reviewed it on Nov. 4, said, "This is a small restaurant next to a gas station. Don't let the no frills building stop you from trying this place. Great food made to order. The handmade tortillas used for the tacos are perfect."
And Samuel G. wrote, "It's really good food at a real good price. Can't beat it. Love it every time I eat here, which is more than once per week. If you like pupusas then this is a must!"
It's open from 6 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 6 a.m.–9 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. on Saturday, and 8 a.m.–5 p.m. on Sunday.
