Incidents fell by 2.1 percent, from 2,472 in December to 2,421 in January. Crime levels tend to follow seasonal patterns, and some of the most common offenses tend to decline in winter, which might partly explain the most recent downward trend.

Most types of crimes decreased this month, led by burglary and robbery. Burglary fell from 146 reported incidents in December to 114 in January. Robbery incidents went from 110 to 83 for the month, or about a 24 percent decrease.
There were 265 theft reports last month. Theft incidents dropped from 269 offenses the previous month.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, shooting reports went from 138 to 152. Vandalism incidents rose from 34 to 45, and assault incidents went up from 50 to 53.

When it comes to crime patterns in different areas of the city, the largest decline last month occurred in Southeast Dallas, Oak Lawn and Northeast Dallas.
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Tuesdays produced the most crime incidents last month. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Sundays, Saturdays and Thursdays, while incidents on Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Mondays went up. after midnight, late night and evening saw the most crime last month on average each day.
