The number of crime incidents in Yorba Linda saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 193 for the week of Feb. 4, up from 162 the week before.
The specific offenses that increased the most were burglary and robbery. Burglary rose to 63 incidents last week, from 53 the week before. Robbery went from one to seven.
While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a considerable percentage increase in assault, from one incident per week to five, and in vandalism, from two to four incidents.
There was one reported shooting last week. That represents an increase from zero incidents the previous week.
Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of theft went from 25 to 18.
There were 95 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 15 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, two involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from three reported arrests the week before.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays produced the most crime incidents. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Sundays and Thursdays, while incidents on Wednesdays and Saturdays went down. Comparing times of day, midday, late morning and early afternoon saw the most crime.
