The number of crime incidents in Milwaukee saw an overall decrease last month, for the second month in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents fell by about 14 percent, from 13,044 in January to 11,168 in February.

Shooting and theft reports declined the most from the previous month. Shootings fell from 964 reported incidents in January to 616 in February. Theft incidents went from 1,500 to 1,234 for the month, or about a 17 percent decrease.

There were 1,798 assault reports last month, and 569 burglary incidents. Assault incidents dropped from 2,013 offenses the previous month, while burglary reports decreased by 120 incidents.

When it comes to crime patterns in different areas of the city, Washington Park, Historic Mitchell Street and Uptown saw the largest decline from January to February.

Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays saw the most reported crimes last month. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Wednesdays, while incidents on Mondays went up. Comparing times of day, late afternoon, evening and early afternoon saw the most crime last month on average each day.
