The number of crime incidents in Milwaukee saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 3,192 for the week of March 11, up from 2,721 the week before.

The specific offenses that increased the most were assault and theft. Assault rose to 537 incidents last week, from 400 the week before. Theft went from 274 to 328.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a considerable percentage increase in vandalism, from 104 incidents per week to 136, and in robbery, from 25 to 33 incidents.

There were 152 reported burglary incidents last week. That represents an increase from 134 incidents the previous week. There were also 195 shooting incidents, up from 177 the week before.

There were 1,811 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 204 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 94 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 92 reported arrests the week before.

As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Old North Milwaukee, Harambee and Kilbourn Town had the most reported incidents last week. Old North Milwaukee was at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Kilbourn Town experienced the highest growth in crime. Crime reports in Harambee also rose, after declining the week before, and incidents in Park West are up considerably as well.

Regarding day and time factors, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Sundays, Saturdays and Mondays, while incidents on Fridays went down. Comparing times of day, early afternoon, late night and evening saw the most crime last week.
