The number of crime incidents in Milwaukee saw an overall decrease last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 2,721 for the week of March 4, down from 2,788 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were assault and robbery. Assault fell to 400 incidents last week, from 445 the week before. Robbery went from 36 to 25. Reports of assault have continued to fall for the last two weeks.

There were 134 reported burglary incidents last week. That represents a decrease from 136 incidents the previous week. There were also 274 incidents of theft, down from 280 the week before.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, shootings went from 163 to 177, and vandalism rose from 103 to 104.

There were 1,607 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 18 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 92 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 78 reported arrests the week before.

Looking at crime patterns in different areas of the city, Old North Milwaukee, Franklin Heights and Historic Mitchell Street had the most reported incidents last week. Old North Milwaukee was at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Juneau Town saw the largest decline. Crime reports in Lower East Side also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Borchert Field are down considerably as well.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Thursdays, Saturdays and Fridays produced the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays, while incidents on Thursdays and Fridays went up. Comparing times of day, late afternoon, evening and midday continue to see the most crime incidents.
