The number of crime incidents in San Antonio saw an overall decrease last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 8,185 for the week of March 11, down from 8,530 the week before.

The offenses that decreased the most were theft and assault. Theft fell to 1,494 incidents last week, from 1,908 the week before. Assault went from 903 to 758. Reports of theft have continued to fall for the last four weeks, while assault incidents have been decreasing for the last three weeks.

There were 435 reported burglary incidents last week. That represents a decrease from 461 incidents the previous week. There were also 100 shooting incidents, down from 111 the week before.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of vandalism went from 231 to 278.

There were 5,039 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 228 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 212 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 226 reported arrests the week before.

Looking at crime patterns in different areas of the city, Downtown, Highland Hills and Prospect Hill continued to have the most reported incidents last week.

Crime in Highland Hills decreased the most; incidents in the neighborhood have been falling for three weeks in a row. Crime reports in Northwest Los Angeles Heights also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Five Points are down considerably as well.

Regarding when most crimes are committed, Fridays, Thursdays and Tuesdays produced the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Fridays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, while incidents on Sundays went up. Comparing times of day, late afternoon, evening and late night saw the most crime last week.
