The number of crime incidents in Milwaukee saw an overall increase last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 3,465 for the week of March 18, up from 3,192 the week before.

The specific offenses that increased the most were shooting and burglary. Shooting rose to 239 incidents last week, from 195 the week before. Burglary went from 152 to 183. Shootings have continued to grow for the last five weeks, while burglary incidents have been increasing for the last two weeks.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a notable percentage increase in robbery, from 33 incidents per week to 42, and in assault, from 537 to 565 incidents.

There were 341 reported theft incidents last week. That represents an increase from 328 incidents the previous week. There were also 146 incidents of vandalism, up from 136 the week before.

There were 1,949 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 138 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 104 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 94 reported arrests the week before.

Considering the concentration of crime across the city, Old North Milwaukee, Harambee and North Division had the most reported incidents last week. Old North Milwaukee and Harambee were at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Crime in Sherman Park went up the most; incidents in the neighborhood have been rising for three weeks in a row. Crime reports in North Division also rose for a second week, and incidents in Silver Spring are up considerably as well.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Saturdays, Thursdays and Tuesdays witnessed the most reported crimes last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Fridays, Thursdays and Tuesdays, while incidents on Wednesdays went down. Comparing times of day, late morning, evening and after midnight saw the most crime last week.
