The number of crime incidents in San Antonio saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 9,322 for the week of March 25, down from 9,957 the week before.

Theft and assault led the decrease in crime reports. Theft fell to 2,035 incidents last week, from 2,432 the week before. Assault went from 1,260 to 1,064.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a notable percentage decrease in robbery, from 112 incidents per week to 98, and in burglary, from 507 to 486 incidents.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, shootings went from 103 to 123, and vandalism rose from 273 to 282.

There were 5,234 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 36 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 248 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 274 reported arrests the week before.

As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Downtown, Highland Hills and Prospect Hill continued to have the most reported incidents last week.

Shearer Hills - Ridgeview experienced the largest drop in crime. Crime reports in Greater Gardendale also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Downtown are down considerably as well.

Regarding when most crimes are committed, Wednesdays, Mondays and Tuesdays saw the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Sundays, Saturdays and Thursdays, while incidents on Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Mondays went up. Comparing times of day, evening, late afternoon and late night saw the most crime last week.
