Both the short- and long-term effects of childhood trauma exposure may lead to devastating outcomes on the child’s physical, emotional, psychological, cognitive, and social health and well-being. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the effects of childhood trauma exposure on the developing brain and the effect that this stress may have on a child’s neurodevelopment. Ultimately, exposure to childhood trauma may lead to lifelong biochemical, functional, and structural changes in the brain.
