A new spot to score Korean-style hot dogs and more has made its debut in the neighborhood. Located within the Zion Market at 4800 Irvine Blvd. in Northwood, the addition is called Chungchun Rice Hotdogs.
The spot, one of a fast-growing small chain, serves up freshly fried rice dogs, a popular Korean street food. Its menu centers on hot dogs or sausages dipped in rice batter and coated with a variety of toppings, including diced potato and breadcrumbs.
The new addition has received mixed reviews thus far, with a three-star rating out of 20 reviews on Yelp.
Jeongwoo K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on August 21, wrote, "You do have to wait about 10 minutes for a hot dog — but that's probably because the outer layer is made with rice and not the traditional flour (which is why you get that chewy texture). The food itself is delicious. And it's really cheap as well."
And Rose N. wrote, "The [sweet potato] sausage is fairly small and not very proportional to the rest of the hotdog. The sweet potatoes mixed with the sausage is definitely interesting. I wouldn't say it was delicious, but it wasn't bad either."
Chungchun Rice Hotdogs is now open at 4800 Irvine Blvd., Suite 101, so stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood.
