Crime dropping in Dallas: What's the latest in the trend?Photo: iStock

The number of crime incidents in Dallas saw an overall decrease last week after a previous rise, according to data from CrimeoMeter, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 2,275 for the week of July 22, down from 2,473 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were drug-related offenses and auto theft. Drug-related offenses fell to 29 incidents last week, down from 72 the week before. Auto theft went down from 208 to 190. Reports of drug-related offenses have continued to fall for the last two weeks.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a notable percentage decrease in domestic offenses, from 23 incidents per week down to 10, as well as in weapons offenses, from 12 to three incidents.

There was one reported arson last week. That represents a decrease from two incidents the previous week. There were also 145 incidents of assault, down from 159 the week before.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of fraud or financial crimes went up from 43 to 46. Incidents of homicide rose from one to three, and kidnapping went up from zero to one.

There were 941 reports of miscellaneous other crimes, a decrease of 65 from the previous week. Other crimes include a variety of offenses like trespassing, public disturbance and violation of a court order.

Considering the concentration of crime across the city, Northeast Dallas, Southeast Dallas and Preston Hollow had the most reported incidents last week. Northeast Dallas and Southeast Dallas were at the top of the list the previous week, as well.

South Boulevard-Park Row Historic experienced the largest drop in crime. Crime reports in Far North also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Northeast Dallas are down considerably as well.

Regarding day and time factors, Monday, Friday and Thursday had the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Wednesday, Tuesday and Thursday, while incidents on Monday went up. Comparing times of day, late morning, early morning and evening saw the most crime last week.
