The number of crime incidents in Dallas saw an overall decrease last week after a previous rise, according to data from CrimeoMeter, which collects reports from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 2,183 for the week of August 5, down from 2,332 the week before.
The overall decrease in crime reports was led by assault and burglary. Assault fell to 170 incidents last week, down from 208 the previous week. Burglary cases decreased from 130 to 111.
While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a notable percentage decrease in domestic offenses, from 30 incidents per week down to 12, and in drug-related offenses, from 33 to 23 incidents.
There were 166 reported auto theft incidents last week. That represents a decrease from 171 incidents the previous week. There were also 448 incidents of theft, down from 465 the week prior.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of robbery increased from 61 to 77. Incidents of homicide rose from two to six, and public intoxication cases went up from zero to one.
There were 911 reports of miscellaneous other crimes, a decrease of 29 from the previous week. Other crimes include a variety of offenses like trespassing, public disturbance and violation of a court order.
As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Northeast Dallas, Southeast Dallas and Cedar Crest had the most reported incidents last week. Northeast Dallas and Southeast Dallas were also at the top of the list the previous week.
Northeast Dallas experienced the largest drop in crime. Crime reports in Far North also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Oak Cliff are down considerably, as well.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, while incidents on Thursday and Monday went up. Comparing times of day, late morning, early morning and midday saw the most crime last week.
