First tracked mountain lion crosses Los Angeles freeway

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Officials say for the first time during a 17-year study of mountain lions, one of the big cats has been documented crossing Interstate 405 in Los Angeles. The National Park Service said Thursday that P-61 navigated his way across the freeway between 2 and 4 a.m. on July 19th in the Sepulveda Pass. The NPS called it a rare feat. In the same area where P-61 crossed, the mountain lion P-18 was hit and killed by a vehicle in 2011.

Metro bike share program opens several new stations in north Los Angeles 

Several new Metro Bike Share stations opened Thursday in North Hollywood, provided by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the city of Los Angeles. Sixteen new stations that hold up to 150 bicycles were installed in North Hollywood, Toluca Lake and Valley Village.
