The number of crime incidents in Lexington saw an overall decrease last week for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects reports from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 143 for the week of Sept. 16, down from 173 the week before.
Theft and vandalism led the decrease in crime reports. Theft dropped to 40 incidents last week, from 54 the week before. Vandalism dipped from 30 to 20.
There was also a sizable percentage decrease in burglary, from 15 incidents per week to 12.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of assault increased from 37 to 39. Incidents of robbery rose from three to four.
There were 27 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of seven from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, five involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 16 reported arrests the week before.
Regarding when most crimes are committed, Monday, Thursday and Wednesday had the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while incidents on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday went up. Comparing times of day, midday, evening and after midnight saw the most crime last week.
