Shakespeare through Improvisation

This class will be a two-and-a-half hour introduction exploring how Shakespearean language, characters and storytelling can be incorporated using improvisational games and techniques. By employing a lively, on-your-feet approach, the course aims to narrow the gap between the resourceful, mercurial nature of Shakespeare’s original company and today’s more scholarly rehearsal processes. These exercises have been refined over decades of classroom experimentation. They are designed to ignite the senses, unleash the imagination, and galvanize the mind, body and spirit.
