One elementary school serving Chestnut Hill-West and nearby neighborhoods has something to brag about: A reading proficiency rating that places it No. 21 among the 148 elementary and community buildings in the Philadelphia City School District. That’s according to recently released data for this school year from Niche.com.

We used the data to rank the public elementary schools in the district according to the percentage of their students who scored proficient or above in reading on state exams. At Charles W. Henry School, that was 48% — well above the average for elementaries of 31%.
