New American spot Son & Garden debuts in the TenderloinPhoto: Rui L./Yelp

Do you have New American fare on the mind? If so, a recent opening is need-to-know. Located at 700 Polk St. in the Tenderloin, the new arrival is called Son & Garden.

Occupying the corner space that was once home to Ken's Kitchen, Son & Garden, which is run by the chef behind Farmhouse Kitchen Thai and Oakland's Daughter Thai, has been nearly two years in the making. Open at last, the colorful new restaurant boasts a floral decor and eye-popping takes on breakfast, lunch and dinner classics.

Stop in in the morning for a house omelette with pork sausage, matcha mochi pancakes and a selection of Benedicts topped with everything from lobster to kimchi fried rice. Starting at 11 a.m., Son & Garden begins offering a lunch menu of sandwiches and salads, and in the evening, it serves a full dinner menu of familiar favorites with a "whimsical touch." Check out the apricot habanero wings, the duck confit with garlic quinoa and baby bok choy, and the wagyu burger with "bear belly bacon" jam. The new spot also has a full bar and a secret lounge area.

Son & Garden has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 29 reviews on Yelp.

Williams S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new arrival on Feb. 25, wrote, "The food itself was incredible, and the short rib Benedict is a must-order! The wagyu burger was delicious, too."

Yelper Sandy B. noted, "Dream brunch goals! This place is gorgeous."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Son & Garden is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day except Tuesday.
