Foot Fondler Nabbed in Lake Tahoe: Bizarre Crime Spree HaltedDouglas County Sheriff's Office

Mark Anthony Gonzalez, the 26-year-old perpetrator of a series of foot fondling incidents in Lake Tahoe, has finally been apprehended, according to a KTVU report. Gonzalez was arrested at his residence in the Atwater area with the assistance of Merced County Sheriff's deputies and is now facing two counts of burglary and two counts of battery in connection to his alleged foot-fondling crimes.

The hunt for the foot fondler began in early July 2023, when an unknown individual targeted two unsuspecting women staying at the 4.5-star Club Wyndham South Shore hotel. Both victims awoke in the middle of the night – precisely at 4:30 a.m. – to find the intruder fondling their feet, as reported by the New York Post. Upon their awakening, the assailant would bolt from the room through the exterior sliding screen door, which most likely had been left unlocked.

Interestingly, the incidents took place while law enforcement, including the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Nevada State Police, had increased patrol personnel throughout the area for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Despite the bolstered police presence, the foot fondler managed to evade capture for weeks.

It remains unclear if the perpetrator had any connection to the Club Wyndham South Shore or was resident of the area. In response to the bizarre invasion, officials urged guests and residents to lock all exterior doors at night, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and caution in the popular tourist spot.
