
A 33-year-old resident of Barstow, Dequantanae Vashay Rogers has been accused of a crime – cruelty to a child.
This incident, which occurred Yesterday, came to light when an SBSD - Victor Valley Sheriff's Department Post reported that Deputy William Fifita investigated allegations of child abuse. The allegations stated that Dequantanae Rogers, the child's aunt, had struck a four-year-old with a back scratcher on a school bus. The event was captured by the bus's video surveillance.
Upon reviewing the footage, Deputy Fifita authored an arrest warrant, quickly receiving judge's approval. In cooperation with detectives from the Victor Valley Sheriff's Station, Rogers and the child were located at their home in the 1700 block of Sunset Street in Barstow. The arrest took place without incident, and Rogers has since been booked at High Desert Detention Center on charges of child cruelty, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
The young victim, alongside their six-year-old sibling, have been placed under the custody of Los Angeles County Child Protective Services. As the investigation continues, authorities are to thoroughly examine the implications of the incident and maintain the safety of the affected children.
