Early Wednesday, a seemingly ordinary traffic stop near Stage Gulch Rd and Watmaugh Road transformed into something quite unexpected.

Initially suspicious of the driver's potential involvement in criminal activity, the deputy and his K9 partner conducted an exterior sniff test for narcotics on the vehicle. The specially trained dog responded with the alarming presence of illegal substances wafting from the car. Performing a thorough search, the deputy discovered a whopping 23 pounds of methamphetamine stashed away inside the vehicle.

According to a report from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, the driver, 33-year-old Enrique Sanchez-Arias, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and felony transportation of a controlled substance. The deputies then contacted the Property/Narcotics unit, who, based on the information provided by Sanchez-Arias, issued a search warrant for the suspect's residence in Vacaville, CA. With the assistance of the Vacaville Police Department, the premises were secured, and the detectives' subsequent search unearthed a shocking amount of illegal items:

  • Approximately one-half pound of methamphetamine
  • Approximately 1 kilo (2.2 pounds) of fentanyl
  • Approximately 1,500 fentanyl-laced fake M30 pills
  • Three loaded firearms (one stolen)
  • Additional ammunition

Sanchez-Arias' original bail was set at $0, but due to the severity of the findings and the potential impact on the community, detectives sought a bail increase from a judge, ultimately settling at $250,000.
