Chicago Based Kraft Heinz Recalls American Cheese Slices - Choking Hazard Alert for ConsumersSource: Kraft Heinz Company

For parents and cheese lovers alike, a recent recall announcement of beloved Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices is a cause for concern. Kraft Heinz, the company behind the popular cheese brand, revealed yesterday that they are recalling more than 83,000 cases of the product due to a possible choking hazard posed by the wrapper.

According to the announcement made by Kraft Heinz, one of their wrapping machines reportedly developed a temporary issue that caused a thin strip of film to potentially remain attached to the cheese slice even after it had been removed from the wrapper. This strip of film, if unnoticed and consumed, could lead to choking.

While the machine has since been fixed, the recall comes after Kraft Heinz received multiple consumer complaints regarding the wrapper issue. In six of these cases, people reported either gagging or choking as a result of ingesting the film, although thankfully, no injuries or serious health issues have been reported so far.

The recall specifically targets 16-ounce Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product packages with a “Best When Used By” date between January 10, 2024, and January 27, 2024. In addition, 3-pound multipacks of the same product are also being recalled if their “Best When Used By” date falls between January 9, 2024, and January 13, 2024.

If you have purchased any of the affected products, Kraft Heinz advises not to consume them and to either return them to the store you bought them from for an exchange or refund, or to contact Kraft Heinz directly at 1-800-280-8252 to verify if your product is part of the recall and for reimbursement information.
