An Oxnard man has recently plead guilty to reckless evading and insurance fraud in Ventura County, California. Diego Galvan (DOB 09/09/86), was charged with one count of reckless driving while evading a peace officer and one count of insurance fraud, both of which are felonies, according to a recent press release from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
On May 6, while riding his motorcycle, Galvan evaded California Highway Patrol officers who attempted to stop him in Ventura. The pursuit ended with Galvan crashing his motorcycle and subsequently abandoning it. In an effort to avoid the repercussions of his actions, Galvan falsely reported to Geico insurance that his motorcycle had been stolen.
The case, which was investigated by the California Highway Patrol and the Geico insurance company, is set to see Galvan sentenced on October 23, in the Ventura County Superior Court. Repercussions for insurance fraud and reckless evading can be severe, with automobile insurance fraud punishable by an up to five years in county jail and a fine up to $50,000, or double the amount of fraud, whichever is greater; and reckless driving while evading a peace officer punishable by up to three years in county jail and a fine up to $10,000, according to the District Attorney's Office.
