Last Monday, a pedestrian was stopped for creating a traffic hazard in Santa Rosa by crossing Guerneville Road near Steele Lane without the right-of-way, forcing vehicles to swerve dangerously around them. According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, the individual was identified as 36-year-old transient Billy Scott, who had a prior involvement in the burglary of a tool shed at Roseland University Prep on June 3.
As per the terms of Scott's pre-trial release, he was subject to warrantless search, leading police to find over $8,000 cash, approximately 1-ounce of methamphetamine, and personal information of two identity theft victims on his person. Some of the stolen personal information included mail, credit cards, identification cards, and social security numbers. The investigation continued, and the authorities discovered numerous recently-burglarized business suites in the 3000-block of Cleveland Avenue.
Further investigation led the police to a local motel where Scott claimed he was staying with his friend, Kendra Smith, a 43-year-old transient from Santa Rosa. According to Santa Rosa Police's tweet, a search of their room revealed an additional 3-ounces of methamphetamine and more property believed to have been stolen from the business complex on Cleveland Avenue. Officers arrested Scott on charges of possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, possession of stolen property, identity theft, and burglary, while Smith, initially posing as an unwitting roommate, was arrested on Wednesday, and charged with possession of stolen property.
