Earlier today, a San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy faced the life-threatening dangers inherent in law enforcement when he sustained minor injuries during a confrontation with a burglary suspect in Hesperia. As authorities reported, deputies were responding to a burglary in progress around 7 p.m. when gunfire erupted, resulting in their return fire. One suspect was found dead at the scene, while the injured deputy has since been released from the hospital.
KTLA news disclosed that the call of the burglary in progress, which took place in the 13200 block of Sunland Street, came in at around the same time. When deputies arrived, the shooting took place almost immediately. Although details remain sparse, it is apparent that the area had been flooded with first responders, including at least one ambulance. Details of the event continue to emerge, as do calls for the need for increased public safety.
The identity of the suspected burglar who died at the scene has not yet been released, as well as any information about the second suspect, who remains at large. Citizens are strongly advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
