Yesterday on the streets of Compton, as California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers found themselves forced to quickly open fire on the driver of a white Kia Optima. The suspects had allegedly attempted to ram the patrol car during a traffic stop, prompting the officers' desperate attempt to quickly bring the situation to an end. With multiple suspects still at large, the search for those involved continues amid the chaotic aftermath of the incident according to Fox LA.
Source reports detail that a call came in around 11:20 p.m. regarding shots fired near Alondra Boulevard and Aprilla Avenue, prompting CHP officers to initiate the fateful traffic stop as reported on Fox LA. During the stop, the white Kia, allegedly driven by the suspects, accelerated towards the officers and attempted to strike the patrol car. In response, CHP officers shot multiple times at the fleeing vehicle, but were ultimately unable to apprehend the suspects in a short pursuit that followed per a KTLA article.
The abandoned Kia was discovered by authorities roughly a mile away on Cypress Avenue, riddled with bullet holes and signs of collision. The continued search for the driver and any other potential suspects has led to road closures in the area, as police and investigators work tirelessly to piece together the events that led to the harrowing standoff.
Despite the violence of the confrontation, no CHP officers were injured during the incident.
