The assailant behind the tragic September 2020 shooting of two Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies, Deonte Lee Murray, was found guilty yesterday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department shared the verdict on Facebook, marking the conclusion of the trial which closed on September 28. The families of the deputies, after three taxing years, saw justice served.

On September 12, 2020, Murray, 39 years old at the time, wantonly attacked the unsuspecting deputies as they supervised pedestrian traffic from their patrol vehicle at the Compton Train Station. This attack inflicted severe injuries on the deputies who managed to survive by demonstrating professional resolve.

Beyond the attack on the deputies, Murray had engaged in a series of criminal acts that painted a broader picture of his delinquency. As reported by the Sheriff's Department, Murray had shot a man and stolen his vehicle on September 1, 2020, and further carried out a separate shooting outside the Compton Courthouse on September 10, 2020.

The jury returned a verdict last month, August 1, having found Murray guilty of a range of crimes. These included three counts of attempted murder, one count of carjacking, one count of robbery, and one count of assault with a firearm. He was additionally found guilty of four counts of ex-felon in possession of a gun.
