Yesterday, a fire broke out in a two-story duplex located at 963 N Serrano Avenue, East Hollywood. One unit on the second floor was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke, and the fire quickly became life-threatening, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). However, the rapid response from firefighters prevented further destruction.
Firefighters contained the blaze within 19 minutes. Despite their efforts, one fatality was reported. A severely injured male, estimated to be in his 60s, was transported by LAFD paramedics to a local hospital, according to LAFD. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the severe burn injuries later in the evening, as per an update from the LAFD.
LAFD arson investigators are currently trying to uncover the incident, according to LAFD.
