After 40 years, an arrest has been made in a brutal murder case dating back to 1983. As reported by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, Alfredo Carretero Jr. was arrested on October 2, in Lakeport, California, as a suspect in the murder of Noelle Russo (Kinzie) in Rohnert Park, California.
Detectives and deputies collected evidence over the years, conducting interviews and identifying potential suspects including Carretero Jr. It took four decades and considerable advances in technology to gather sufficient DNA evidence linking him to the crime scene. Forensic examinations conducted from 2010 to 2023, both in the Santa Clara County Crime Lab and the Serological Research Institute, provided the crucial evidence leading to his arrest.
Despite the significant lapse since Russo's murder to ensure justice was not compromised. The combined work of the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office and the Violent Crime Investigations (VCI) Unit underscores their commitment to solving cold cases, and pursuit of justice for victims of violent crimes, irrespective of the elapsed time. This brings closure to victims' families and holds perpetrators accountable.
If anyone has information relating to Russo's case or any other unsolved crimes, they are encouraged to contact the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office at 707-565-2185 or submit an anonymous tip on their website: www.sonomasheriff.org/silent-witness/.
