Yesterday, a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a Lime scooter rider and two cars occurred in Hollywood. The incident has highlighted two significant issues: the recurring problem of hit-and-runs and the ongoing debate regarding scooter safety and regulations, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department
The LAPD's report detailed how the scooter rider was hit by a black sedan that fled the scene. Minutes later, a silver Lexus hit the already injured individual, but unlike the previous car, the Lexus's driver reported the accident and stayed on the scene. The victim died from his injuries in a local hospital, and his identity is currently withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
In seeking to address the issue of hit-and-run incidents in Los Angeles, the city established the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund in 2015. Up to $50,000 in rewards are offered for information leading to the closure of hit-and-run cases, a move aimed at encouraging citizens and witnesses to provide any helpful information. In this particular incident, the black sedan's driver is yet to be located, with the reward remaining unclaimed.
