Yesterday, a significant fire erupted in a vacant commercial building at 442 W Rosecrans Avenue, Harbor Gateway. The sight of flames and smoke alerted the community. Over 80 firefighters, including the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD), and Compton Fire Department, jumped into action, successfully dousing the flames within 41 minutes, noted the LAFD.

The structure was heavily damaged, including a complete roof collapse, with the debris acting as primary fuel for the fire. Fanned by the main fire, embers ignited a 50-foot trailer several buildings away, necessitating a secondary emergency response. Firefighters managed to quickly extinguish this fire, ensuring no further extension into the neighboring structures, LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart reported.

LAFD initially managed the incident, however, their investigation determined that the primary fire fell under the jurisdiction of the LACoFD, according to an update by the LAFD. Therefore, command of the incident was transferred to the LA County Fire Department. Remarkably, there were no injuries.

In the wake of this complex disaster, assurance was given of the LAFD's commitment to stay in the area into the evening and drivers were advised to seek alternative routes to avoid possible delays. The LAFD heavy equipment personnel will conduct a thorough overhaul operation.
