Former Fire Chief Gregory F. Fish returns as acting chief of Glendale, California's Fire Department, amid the sudden administrative leave of current chief, Timothy Ernst. The veteran fireman's appointment, instigated by City Manager Roubik Golanian, restores a degree of certainty during a period of personnel instability, as reported by the City of Glendale.
The City's need for a smooth transition benefits from Fish's appointment and his prior tenure with the department (1987 to 2018) offers reassurance to the community. According to Glendale's city announcement, Fish, freshly retired from his role as Fire Chief of the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire District, will assume command on November 1.
Fish's 31-year career in Glendale provides a swift trajectory from firefighter, captain, battalion chief, deputy chief, to eventually becoming fire chief in 2015. A winner of the Distinguished Service award, Fish also served as a Fire Academy Assistant Administrator and adjunct faculty member at Glendale Community College from 1999 to 2007.
