The community of Inglewood, California is left grappling amidst grief and unanswered questions following a deadly shooting incident on Saturday. The tragedy resulted in two fatalities and three others are wounded. The incident was characterized as an ambush by Mayor James Butts, intensifying the shock and sorrow within the community, as reported by CBS News.
The horrifying event unfolded around 4.40 p.m., mere blocks from SoFi Stadium, at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and 11th Street. Of the five male victims, two succumbed to their injuries—one on–scene, and other en route to the hospital—while the remaining three were admitted to local hospitals, one of whom is still in critical condition.
According to CBS News, in an ongoing investigation, Mayor Butts informed KCAL News that the attack seemingly was premeditated and targeted. The perpetrators were reported to have approached victims on foot from separate directions before opening fire. The authorities are currently sifting through surveillance footage to gather much needed information on the assailants.
The incident has deeply affected the community, with the fatal shooting occurring in a local parking lot often used as a gathering spot by the victims and their friends. A mourner, Claude Morris, who tragically lost several friends in the incident, had planned to join them at the lot that day.
