On Thursday, October 5, an incident involving a K9 unit from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in the Harbor Division resulted in a person being hospitalized. The LAPD Newsroom relayed events as such: the uniformed Gang Enforcement Detail officers, observing the suspect's suspicious behavior, succeeded in identifying 19-year-old Dion Johnson, who then attempted to flee on foot—this led to the dispatch of a Metropolitan Division’s K9 unit for a search operation.

Multiple K9 announcements and warnings preceded the initiation of the search by both the Air Unit and a fleet of police vehicles. Eventually, found Johnson hiding underneath furniture in a backyard on E. Robidoux Street.

Contact was made with Johnson by the K9 unit, following which he was hospitalized and finally taken into custody. A loaded Polymer 80 semiautomatic pistol was found on the scene.
