The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) and the Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) recently hosted a two-part event series, “Sustainable Food in Motion.” The series focused on their collaborative city and county efforts to build a more equitable, sustainable, and healthy food system, as well as their goal of tackling climate change, according to the press release.

The kick-off event, “Good Food Day: Our Food Supply Chain and Climate Sustainability,” took place earlier this week, on October 17 at Los Angeles City Hall. The event featured a marketplace, resource fair, and exhibition, focusing on the critical issues and initiatives necessary to make the regional food system more accessible and sustainable. Good Food Champions from each city council district were also recognized in the event.

"Nutrition security and climate change are interconnected issues that significantly impact our pursuit for a sustainable future,” said Barbara Ferrer, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. “Addressing both issues with urgency is a must, as our community’s health is directly linked to the health of our planet."

Michael Dimock, Executive Director of Roots of Change, was the keynote speaker at the series’ second event, “Navigating the Crossroads: The Intersection of Nutrition Security and Climate Change.” Held at the Huffington Center in Los Angeles earlier today, the event included a training on stakeholder communication and an awards ceremony to honor Good Food Champions from across the county.

”Good Food Day is an annual event hosted by the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, which aims to highlight relevant issues and initiatives crucial to creating a fair, healthy, sustainable, and accessible regional food system,” said Alba Maria Velasquez, Executive Director of the LAFPC. "This year, we emphasized the connection between our local food supply chain and climate sustainability, and we honored organizations leading local efforts to ensure accessibility to good food."
