Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, in collaboration with Waste Management, is organizing a venture known as the FREE Dumping Day event, which is designed for residents of unincorporated LA County. The event will take place on Saturday, October 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lancaster Landfill, as announced by the City of Palmdale on their Facebook page. The initiative aims to promote community engagement in proper waste disposal and shows a commitment to preserving our environment for future generations.

The majority of households find the disposal of large items such as furniture and appliances to be a difficult and expensive process. Waste disposal fees and transportation complexities often deter individuals from using proper disposal methods. Consequently, illegal dumping has become a major concern, negatively impacting urban and rural landscapes all over, as mentioned by the City of Palmdale

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Waste Management, through the FREE Dumping Day event, are working to provide an environmentally-friendly and affordable solution to this problem. Unincorporated LA County residents will be able to to swiftly dispose up to one ton of household waste free of charge at the event.

While the event does welcome household trash, appliances, and furniture, it will not permit disposal of business waste, tires, and household hazardous waste such as paint, used motor oil, or batteries. The event promotes responsible disposal practices, ensuring that only suitable items are discarded at the prescribed site, according to the City of Palmdale.

To accommodate a broader set of disposal needs, additional events of waste collection have been organized, including a tire collection on the 21st of October from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and events dedicated to the disposal of mattresses and box springs on October 28 and December 16. The Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center (AVECC) also opens on the first and third Saturdays of each month for disposing of hazardous waste and electronic devices, as per the city announcement.
