Earlier this month, on October 4, LAPD's Rampart Division apprehended three suspects supposedly implicated in numerous residential burglaries in Pico-Union neighborhood. Two have been charged already, while investigators try to confirm their involvement in almost 30 additional thefts in the Los Angeles area.
Historically, Pico-Union, a diverse neighborhood in Los Angeles, has had its share of gang violence and crime. Though recent years have seen a dip in violent crimes, property crime continues, reflecting wider socio-economic patterns. Details from these recent incidents suggest a blend of several elements, such as potential racial discrimination and possible links to criminal networks.
The victims predominantly were of Asian descent. According to the LAPD announcement, the suspects forcibly entered residences through rear doors and windows, robbing currency, jewelry, and other property.
Moreover, the suspects are thought to be members of an organized burglary team responsible for a series of incidents in the city, suggesting embeddedness in a city-wide criminal network.
