Long Beach, California, has recently introduced an online permitting system for residential renewable energy projects. According to a recent press release, the system will cater to three types of renewable energy endeavors: solar photovoltaic systems (PV), energy storage systems (ESS), and electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS). The move aims to bolster the city's sustainable growth and reduce its carbon footprint.
The new system is a part of the city's bid to encourage residents to embrace clean energy, which is crucial in achieving environmental goals. Vice Mayor Cindy Allen mentioned that the initiative will play a significant role in promoting renewable energy as it becomes increasingly popular.
The online permitting system caters to three types of renewable energy projects. It covers PV projects, which include roof solar systems panels and associated electrical connections to existing systems. It also accommodates standalone ESS projects or those integrated with PV systems. Lastly, homeowners can use the system to obtain permits for small EVCS at residential projects.
Community Development Director Christopher Koontz mentioned that the department aims to refine its permitting process to help achieve the city's climate and sustainability goals.
