Last week, September 30, in Chino Hills, California, a local law enforcement responded to a concerning call for assistance. An official report from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office unveiled how a routine visit to a local bank turned unfortunate for an unidentified individual. After withdrawing cash, stowing it in a glove box envelope, the individual returned to find their vehicle burglarized, and their money stolen, in mere minutes.

After being called to the scene, Chino Hills detectives identified three suspects from Houston, Texas: Kendrick Montgomery, 19; Anthony Banks, 31; and Byron Butler, 32. Video surveillance traced the suspects back to a Hyundai Elantra with an obstructed license plate, which ultimately led investigators to apprehend the suspects in La Habra on October 4.

The three men, charged with burglary and conspiracy, are representative of bank jugging – a term describing criminals who target people at banks, burglarize their vehicles, and steal their money. This Chino Hills incident reminds us of the continued threat that this type of criminal activity poses to communities.
