The "Gun Buy Back" event transpired on yesterday, in Bellflower. This initiative was a joint venture between the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, including Supervisor Janice Hahn, Mayor Sonny Santa Ines, and Bellflower Councilman Victor Sanchez. Ensuring a secure and judgement-free setting, residents were encouraged to turn in their firearms with no inquiries made, according to the Facebook post of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Aimed at limiting the incidence of unwanted firearms leading to accidents, theft or the potential use in violent criminal activities, the initiative saw over 130 firearms surrendered at the recent even. Participants were given gift cards in exchange, valued from $50 to $300, capable of buying basic necessities based on the firearm type, as posted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Being the most recent in a string of gun buyback initiatives led by Supervisor Hahn since May, the total tally of unwanted guns collected so far stands at over 1,140, sourced from districts including Long Beach, Artesia, Lynwood, Hawaiian Gardens, and Wilmington. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who successfully staff these events, ensures the collected firearms are safely decommissioned.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, they will continue providing this service, symbolizing a continual dedication towards addressing this eminent problem and crafting safer environments for all.
